How are the points scored ?

Looking at the below we can see that Rogue 1 in 3rd place had more of everything...
Level , turns walked etc. Importantly even more staff pieces found, 5 to 1.
So how did Vladimiro get more points scored and 2nd place?
Is this a bug?

Seems Vladimiro exploited a bug that caused his character level to reach 258. I've corrected the high score entry.

Highscore is calculated as following:
+100 per staff piece
+10 per character level gained
+1 per trap disarmed
+8 per room explored
+0.25 per piece of lore discovered
+0.25 per secret uncovered
+0.5 per monster defeated or sneaked past (limit per level)
+1 per 50 gold pieces
If you win the game (by collecting all 7 staff pieces or reaching dungeon level 150), you also gain a 25% score bonus.

Hi Zefz,
maybe this is by design.
I find that if I use a spell to defeat more then 1 monster in the same turn I still receive only 1 point (0.25 actually).
So I guess it’s acting like a cap per turn.
Maybe a good idea.

There is a cap of how many points you can get per level by killing monsters. That means usually you don't score extra by killing all monsters in a level. You are rewarded by getting to the exit.

Yes, I think I heard you say that somewhere before.
There is a cap per level for points from monster killing.

however...
is there also a cap per turn for points scored from monster killing?
say... if I go down into a now level and start off with armageddon first turn,
do I get 0.25 points, lots of points, no points or something else?


I suspect there is actually a game bug somewhere here
but first I need to understand what it's meant to be doing.

There are 5 different categories of score added together to calculate the grand total score:

LEVEL
ADVENTURE
COMBAT
TREASURE
QUEST

Defeating monsters by killing them go under the COMBAT type and give 0.5 score per monster destroyed.
The COMBAT score cannot be higher than (DungeonLevel*10). This means if you are at level 50, you can gain a maximum of 500 points (e.g killing 1000 monsters total). Any additional monsters destroyed will not give any additional points.

Right,
So each game the player could only have a maximum of 1500 points from combat (ending on level 150).
The player only needs to kill 20 monsters each level. Got it thanks. 😁

Can we talk about this...
+1 per 50 gold pieces

What about the extra gold from leprechauns blessing?
Is that only for gold picked up? What about the Mercenary trait, where the gold is not picked up?
What about finding a gemstone (not gold), would this give some points?
What about later selling that gemstone for gold? Does gaining gold from selling give points?
If not then getting a gemstone (and 0 points for it) could be less value then any gold.


Selling things gets tricky either way we look at it.
However if selling things for gold would give points then I would totally exploit that bug.
I would just find any merchant and using 1 apple (or whatever)
repeatedly buy and sell the same 1 item again and again to gain points for when the gold is comeing in my direction
(...unless you say that spending gold loses points, and that would be a whole other problem).



...hmmmm...
...maybe when the game ends the total inventory value should be calculated and added to points.
I would even be tempted to say... picking up gold gives no points, instead,
when the game ends total inventory value + total gold (+%25 if survived) is added to points.

Currently it calculates score bonus for gold gained from any source, except selling items.

The idea is not to punish players who wish to spend their gold (e.g for training). Therefore thieves stealing gold also does not affect the score.

Inventory value (current gold in inventory, gems, etc.) has currently no effect on the score.
